*** Falcons' Williams shot in downtown Atlanta

ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta Falcons defensive back Elijah Williams was
shot in the leg early Saturday in what police called a robbery
attempt. Williams was outside a bar in a north section of
downtown Atlanta about 2 a.m. when he was shot. He was treated at
Grady Memorial Hospital and released. Williams, 25, said he was
at a restaurant with some friends and had gone outside to ask the
valet to get his car. "The valet was nowhere to be found,"
Williams said. "The dude was about 10 yards from the door with a
pistol." He said the man told him to hand over his watch. "I
turned my back and started to walk away," Williams said. "He
grabbed my shirt. We started wrestling, and I punched him off.
That's when he shot me." He said he was walking without crutches
Saturday. Police searched a southwest Atlanta apartment complex
for suspects later in the morning but made no arrests.

*** Three Rivers to be demolished

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Three Rivers Stadium, home of the greatest play
and some of the greatest teams in NFL history, will be demolished
Sunday in a 19-second burst of flashing dynamite and crumbling
concrete. Thousands of onlookers will crowd atop Mount
Washington, the scenic peak that towers above the city's skyline,
and in riverfront Point State Park to watch the implosion of the
mammoth circular stadium, which turned 30 in July. A monument to
the days when sterile uniformity and multipurpose functionality
were the touchstone of stadium planning, Three Rivers will be
replaced by separate baseball and football stadiums currently
rising nearby on the city's North Shore. "It will be sad to see
it go," former Pittsburgh Pirates manager Chuck Tanner said.
"There were a lot of great moments in that stadium, and great
people. I'm sure Mr. Rooney (the late Steelers owner Art Rooney
Sr.) will be watching somewhere."
